Waitaki Whitestone Geopark

This is New Zealand’s first UNESCO Global Geopark and it is filled with amazing sites. We have already visited the boulders at Moeraki and these inland sites are just as curious. For me, standing with the wind howling around my ears whilst I looked at the skeleton of a fossilised whale that dated from 23-28 million years ago, it was hard to image that this land was under the sea with some of the landscape we saw forming the seabed. The route also included some Maori rock art which while quite faded was still very interesting. I won’t write too much more but here’s the link to the website if you’d like to find out more…https://www.whitestonegeopark.nz/
