We spent a glorious couple of days at Lake Ōhau. Staying at the upper DoC site, we almost had the place to ourselves! It’s a long gravel road drive in, but oh my is it worth it! Not a sound other than the occasional road noise. Other than the wind and the birds. And what a view! Surrounded by hills and snow capped mountains. Spent time sitting at the lake edge watching the multitude of Fantails flit about in and near the water. So many of them! Finally managed to get a shot of one with their lovely tail fully open!

We had a quick stop in Twizel for coffee at The Musterers Hut Cafe and to top up on groceries. Saw some amazing Ministry of Works equipment and a rather unusual statue – nothing to explain what it was. Then off to Glentanner for a night where we woke up to fresh snowfall.
